On Tuesday, T-Mobile announced that they have agreed to purchase US Cellular’s wireless operations for $4.4 billion. The acquisition of “substantially all” of US Cellular’s wireless operations and around 30% of its spectrum assets is set to benefit customers by expanding T-Mobile’s reach and offerings in the wireless market.

The deal between T-Mobile and US Cellular includes the takeover of leases on 600 US Cellular towers and long-term leases on approximately 2,100 more. While Verizon was reportedly also in talks to acquire parts of US Cellular, T-Mobile emerged as the successful bidder. The agreement is expected to close in mid-2025 and involve up to $2 billion in assumed debt, signifying further consolidation in the US wireless industry.

Both companies stated that the deal will undergo antitrust review with the aim of bringing lower prices and faster wireless speeds to US Cellular’s primarily rural customer base. The acquisition of Mint Mobile, a wireless provider backed by actor Ryan Reynolds, earlier this year has further strengthened T-Mobile’s position in the market. With this latest acquisition, T-Mobile continues to expand its reach and offerings while providing value to its customers through lower prices and faster speeds.
