In the 14th year of crisis, Syria’s humanitarian needs have reached unprecedented levels. The ongoing conflict, mass displacement, devastating earthquakes in February 2023, and deteriorating economic conditions have all contributed to the challenges faced by the Syrian people. These factors have also had a profound impact on the country’s healthcare system, leading to disruptions, limited functionality, and recurrent disease outbreaks.

Poor hygiene and sanitation, along with limited access to clean water, have led to a significant increase in waterborne diseases. In September 2022, a Cholera outbreak was declared by the Ministry of Health in Syria and continued into 2023. This resulted in 217,512 suspected cases of Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) and 106 associated deaths. The region’s ongoing hostilities and instability have only worsened the situation.
