In the IIHF World Championship, Canada’s Andrew Mangiapane and teammates suffered a tough loss to Switzerland in a shootout. Despite fighting hard, Canada was unable to defend its gold medal as Switzerland avenged their earlier group stage loss with the win. Mangiapane played 15:09 of ice time and took one shot during the game.

In the first period, Kevin Fiala of the LA Kings scored for Switzerland with a powerful one-timer. The Swiss team quickly added another goal while on a powerplay, taking their lead to 2-0 going into the second period. Canada responded with a goal from Brandon Tanev, cutting their deficit to one before the third period.

In the final frame, Canada pushed for an equalizer but failed to achieve it. John Tavares managed to score on a powerplay to force overtime. With both teams still tied after extra time, it came down to a shootout. Connor Bedard scored for Canada while Switzerland scored two goals to take home victory.

Canada will now face Sweden for the Bronze medal at the IIHF World Championship. They are aiming for their fifth consecutive tournament medal.

On the other hand, Switzerland will compete for its first gold medal at this event against Czechia.

Mangiapane played well in his role on the team despite not being able to contribute much offensively during this match. He has been playing consistently throughout this tournament and has shown promise as a rising star in Canadian hockey.

Overall, it was a close match between these two teams that could have gone either way if not for the shootout finale.
