In Fort Wayne, Indiana, Ayers Community Outreach INC. collaborated with various community organizations to organize “Men Fighting for Health,” a forum aimed at raising awareness about men’s mental health. This event attracted volunteers from the Impact Center, New Covenant Worship Center, and Indiana Black Expo, Inc. Joe Ayers, CEO of Ayers Community Outreach and the forum’s organizer for the past decade, shared his own personal journey with prostate cancer and how he overcame it through support groups and open communication with doctors.

The forum served as an opportunity for Ayers to emphasize the importance of communication and support in dealing with health issues. He highlighted the role of support groups and doctor-patient communication in his own cancer journey. The goal of the event was to provide men and their loved ones with valuable resources on prostate cancer and mental health, featuring insights from local doctors and specialists.

Ayers noted that progress has been made in reducing the stigma surrounding men’s mental health. He commended men for becoming more open about seeking therapy and addressing mental health concerns without feeling ashamed. The event took place at the Impact Center on Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., offering educational and supportive resources to promote men’s overall health and well-being.

Joe Ayers is a two-time cancer survivor who has faced his own battle with prostate cancer. For him, this forum was an opportunity to raise awareness about an important aspect of men’s mental health while also sharing his own experiences with prostate cancer.

The event brought together volunteers from different community organizations including Impact Center, New Covenant Worship Center, Indiana Black Expo, Inc., Joe Ayers (CEO of Ayers Community Outreach) who organized this event for over a decade now.

During his speech, Joe emphasized the importance of communication and support when dealing with any kind of health issue especially when it comes to prostate cancer which he faced himself as a survivor.

The goal of this forum was to provide valuable resources on prostate cancer as well as mental health issues affecting men along with insights from local doctors and specialists.

Joe also highlighted how progress has been made in reducing stigma around men’s mental health but still there is much work left to be done.

He encouraged men to seek therapy without feeling ashamed or hesitant since they are not alone in their struggles.
