On May 14, the City Children’s Hospital provided an update on the condition of a 9-year-old boy who was involved in a motorbike accident. The boy fell off the bike and had his leg run over by an oncoming truck, resulting in severe injuries that required amputation up to his thigh. The patient, who lived in Long An, also suffered from multiple injuries including shock, blood loss, and crushed bones in his left leg.

The medical team treated the boy in an emergency situation, addressing his difficult-to-measure blood pressure, shock, and fractures. Orthopedic surgeons performed surgery to clean and wash the wounds on both legs, amputating a portion of the left femur. The team also conducted other procedures to stabilize the patient.

According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Tien, Deputy Director of the hospital, the boy’s left leg was severely damaged and could not be saved despite efforts to preserve it for future prosthetic leg use. The accident occurred when the boy was riding on the back of a motorbike with his sister and their vehicle collided with another motorbike before hitting the road where he was hit by a truck.

The family members of the patient expressed their shock and concern over the accident. They described how their son fell off the motorbike and was run over by a truck before being rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Despite these challenges ahead, they are grateful for doctors working tirelessly to ensure their son receives quality care and has a chance at recovery.
