As summer approaches, over 15 million Italians are already planning their holidays. A recent survey by Federalberghi revealed that a majority of these travelers prefer to vacation within Italy, with a small percentage opting for destinations abroad or in large European cities. Families make up the largest portion of these travelers, with 8.7 million planning to take their children or grandchildren on holiday.

One trend that emerged from the survey is the preference for June as a more sustainable and less hectic month for travel, especially for families looking to enjoy a vacation after the end of the school year. This trend was emphasized by Bernabo’ Bocca, President of Federalberghi, who highlighted the importance of this shift in Italian travel habits and noted that Italians are showing a renewed interest in travel and are willing to invest in their holiday experiences.

The survey also shed light on travel preferences and spending habits. The majority of travelers will stay within Italy, with popular destinations including seaside locations, mountains, art cities, and lakeside resorts. The average duration of a holiday will be 15 days, with an average per capita expenditure of 659 euros. Food, travel, and accommodation are the main areas where travelers will allocate their budgets.
