According to Associate Professor Dr. Mai Anh Tuan, despite the difficulties in commercializing research products, policies are improving to support creative ideas that can contribute to the community and economic development. He expressed this viewpoint at a discussion on how young scientists can start their careers through research at a conference of young scientists in Hanoi.

Associate Professor Tuan pointed out that one of the major obstacles in commercializing research results is the Law on civil servants, which prohibits lecturers from naming businesses. From a market perspective, Associate Professor Tuan acknowledged that investors require faster processes, which can lead to scientists leaving academic institutions. Engineer Luong Van Truong, Director of Southern Ocean Youth Cooperative, emphasized that scientists need to understand not just their products but also aspects of business management, human resources, and marketing to successfully bring their ideas to market.

Dr. Trinh Hoa, co-founder of Buyo bioplastics company, highlighted the importance of having a strong team with both knowledge and market experience for successful commercialization projects. Mr. Bui Xuan Huong, Deputy Director of HD Bank’s corporate customer division, discussed the challenges startups face in accessing capital and the bank’s efforts to support SME businesses and startups.
