In Sudan, a crisis of unprecedented proportions has been fueled by conflict between the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group and the Sudanese army. Since April 2023, this fighting has forced millions of Sudanese people to flee their homes in search of safety, resulting in the largest displacement crisis in the world. The United Nations’ migration agency expects the number of internally displaced people in Sudan to reach 10 million soon.
As a result of this crisis, millions of Sudanese people are facing hunger and food insecurity. In May, several UN agencies issued warnings about a potential hunger crisis in the country, as more than 18 million Sudanese people are currently experiencing acute food shortages. The situation is dire and urgent action is needed from the international community to address the root causes of the crisis and provide vital aid to those in need.
A UN official at the International Organization for Migration expressed concern over the ongoing suffering and loss of life in Sudan, calling for more attention and support from the international community. The international community must take notice of this situation and work together to alleviate the suffering of those affected by this crisis.
