In January, Steward Health Care began looking for buyers for many of its hospitals and filed for bankruptcy on May 6. The company has now detailed a timeline for the sale of all its hospitals, including eight in Massachusetts. Bids for most of the hospitals are due by June 24, and hearings on the sales will begin on July 2, pending approval from a federal judge.

According to court documents, there are “numerous bidders” interested in the 31 hospitals in Massachusetts, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Among these facilities is St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton and Holy Family Hospitals in Haverhill and Methuen. Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River is also included in the list of hospitals for sale.

However, Norwood Hospital is not included on the list for sale as it has been closed for nearly four years due to flooding. Steward is facing significant debt and since January has had monitors at its hospitals in Massachusetts due to concerns over patient care. Governor Maura Healey has previously instructed Steward to exit the hospital business in the state.
