Wheeling’s first responders and hospital officials have noticed that most locals are taking precautions to stay cool during the heat wave. Fire Department Chief Jim Blazier stated that there have been very few calls related to heat-related illnesses. He emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and advised those with health problems to avoid heat exposure. Blazier also recommended outdoor activities be done in the early morning or evening to avoid the peak heat of the day.
Dr. Stanley Guertal, medical director of the emergency department at WVU Medicine Wheeling Hospital, reported that they have not seen a significant increase in heat-related patients. He commended the community for their efforts in staying safe during the heat wave. Blazier suggested that individuals find ways to cool down, such as visiting local swimming pools or cooling centers if needed.
As temperatures remain high, residents are urged to prioritize staying hydrated and taking precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Despite the heat wave, Wheeling’s residents are advised to continue practicing safe habits and seeking ways to stay cool during the hot weather.
