In light of a recent investigation by NJ Advance Media, which revealed that officials at College Achieve Asbury Park have been using a family business to produce apparel for the school, amounting to thousands of dollars, a pair of top state lawmakers and a state education advocacy group have called for a statewide investigation into the College Achieve Public Schools (CAPS) network.

The New Jersey Public Charter Schools Association, the state’s leading charter school advocacy group, condemned the allegations in the NJ Advance Media report as “indefensible.” They underscored the importance of ensuring that public funds are being used appropriately and called for accountability within the College Achieve network.

State Sen. Vin Gopal, D-Monmouth, a member of the Senate Education Committee, found the investigation to be “very disturbing.” State Sen. Paul Sarlo, D-Bergen, also emphasized the need for a full investigation by the state Department of Education and any other applicable agency into College Achieve.
