Dallas Stars defenseman Chris Tanev is uncertain to play in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final on Friday night after being hit in the foot by a shot in Game 4. Coach Pete DeBoer expressed optimism that Tanev would be able to play, but his status will be determined closer to game time.

Tanev sustained the injury during the second period of Game 4 against the Oilers when he was hit by a shot from forward Evander Kane. He left the game and did not return, visibly in pain as he made his way to the bench. DeBoer mentioned that the shot hit Tanev in a vulnerable area but did not provide any further updates on his condition following the game. The team planned for Tanev to undergo medical evaluation with X-rays or an MRI upon their return to Texas.

Acquired from Calgary in a three-team trade in late February, Tanev has been a valuable addition to the Stars’ defensive lineup. Known for his physical play and defensive abilities, the 34-year-old veteran joined a talented group of defensemen that includes Miro Heiskanen, Ryan Suter, Esa Lindell, and Thomas Harley. Tanev’s potential absence would be a significant loss for the team as they prepare for a crucial game in the playoff series.
