St. Peter’s Health is set to expand its outpatient clinics with the acquisition of The Armory building located at the intersection of West Lyndale Ave and North Last Chance Gulch in Helena, Montana. The historic Montana State Arsenal, Armory, and Drill Hall building will be transformed into a space for various healthcare services to better serve the residents of the west side of Helena.

Construction and remodeling of the building are scheduled to begin in January 2025 with an estimated cost of $27 million. The new clinic at The Armory building is expected to offer expanded primary care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, pharmacy, wellness, mental health, rehabilitation, and therapy services. This acquisition will provide easier access to healthcare for west side citizens of Helena as there is currently no pharmacy in that area.

CEO Wade Johnson stated that St. Peter’s Health aims to support the residents on the west side more effectively by providing convenient access to care and services. The organization looks forward to partnering with the community to offer a variety of programs and services at the new location.

The expansion comes after a third-party evaluation conducted in 2022 indicated that Helena will need 30 additional providers in the next three years to meet growing healthcare needs in the community. Nearly half of this demand is for primary care or family medicine services. As current tenants transition out over the next six months, renovations will take place on The Armory building before it accommodates new healthcare services later next year.

With continued growth and aging population in Helena, St Peter’s Health has prioritized expanding its outpatient clinics and improving accessibility to healthcare for residents on the west side of town.
