In a recent interview with Business Insider, Lee Jung-jae revealed some exciting updates about the upcoming second season of “Squid Game.” While attending the Disney Upfronts red carpet on Tuesday, where he was promoting his upcoming Star Wars series “The Acolyte,” Lee shared that the second season of “Squid Game” is set to release in December. Although Netflix has not yet confirmed an official premiere date, co-CEO Ted Sarandos previously hinted that it would be released towards the end of 2024.

The first season of “Squid Game,” which premiered on Netflix in September 2021, was a massive hit both in terms of viewership and critical acclaim. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show features participants competing in deadly games for a substantial monetary prize. Netflix renewed the show for a second season in June 2022, with Lee set to return as Seong Gi-hun. In addition to the second season, Netflix has also released a reality competition spinoff series inspired by the show.

Before appearing in the upcoming season of “Squid Game,” audiences can catch Lee on screen in “The Acolyte,” a new Star Wars series created by Leslye Headland that is set to premiere on June 4 on Disney+. This series explores different aspects of the Star Wars universe outside the primary Skywalker Saga continuity, presenting Lee with new challenges such as lightsaber dueling. Despite his experience with sword work, Lee admitted that the unique nature of lightsaber dueling made him nervous.
