Sheppard Air Force Base and Midwestern State University’s recreational sports division have been continuing their annual athletic competition, with the goal of strengthening community ties between the two institutions. This program offers MSU students the chance to compete against SAFB personnel in various sports and express their gratitude for their service. All events take place at MSU Texas, where participants have access to turf fields and a new basketball court.

One of the highlights of this competition is seeing 20-30 airmen in training buses cheering on their squadron during games. The program features a traveling trophy that moves between campus and base depending on the outcome of each event held each semester. In the most recent season, MSU Texas emerged victorious in flag football with a score of 38-12, while SAFB claimed victory in basketball with a close score of 68-64 and also in softball with a final score of 19-9.

Around 60 students from MSU Texas participated in this series of events, fostering camaraderie and friendly competition between university and Air Force base. The partnership between these two institutions highlights the importance of collaboration and mutual respect. The continuation of this athletic series reflects a commitment to building strong relationships and honoring the service of SAFB personnel.
