Vancouver Whitecaps FC defeated Sporting Kansas City 2-0 in MLS, extending SKC’s winless streak to nine matches. The team’s last MLS victory was on March 30 against Toronto FC. Despite their struggles in the league, SKC has won their first two matches in the U.S. Open Cup and advanced to the quarterfinals.

In the 39th minute, Ryan Gauld scored for Vancouver off a corner kick. SKC’s defense was unable to clear the ball, allowing Gauld to find the back of the net. Head coach Peter Vermes made eight changes to the starting lineup in an attempt to spark a turnaround. Despite making substitutions and tactical adjustments, SKC was unable to mount a comeback.

Vancouver’s second goal came from Gauld in the 83rd minute after intercepting a pass in SKC’s defensive half. The team managed to score a consolation goal in stoppage time, but it was not enough to avoid defeat. Sporting KC currently sits at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 2-8-5 record. They will look to turn things around when they face Minnesota on the road in their next match. Despite the disappointing result, the team remains focused on improving and getting back to winning ways.
