Since its inception in 1989, Edinburgh Science has been an educational charity focused on inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds to explore the world around them. One of its most notable initiatives is the annual Edinburgh Science Festival, which is still one of Europe’s largest. This two-week event offers a diverse range of activities for adults and families, providing captivating science-themed experiences to a wide audience.

In addition to its annual festival, Edinburgh Science places a strong emphasis on education. Through its Generation Science program, the organization brings interactive science experiences to primary schools throughout Scotland. They also host an annual Careers Hive event that promotes STEM careers to young people.

In 2019, Edinburgh Science awarded the prestigious Edinburgh Medal to Christiana Figueres, a key figure in the Paris Climate agreement. This led to the establishment of the Climate Co-Lab, a platform for collaboration across different sectors to generate ideas for accelerating the transition to net zero. One of the outcomes of this collaboration was The NetZeroToolkit, an online resource that helps SMEs develop carbon management strategies.

Edinburgh Science also shares its content and expertise globally through its international arm, Edinburgh Science Worldwide. The organization is involved in various international projects, including serving as the Major Programming Partner for the Abu Dhabi Science Festival. Through these collaborations and partnerships, Edinburgh Science strives to make science accessible and engaging to people around the world while promoting innovation and collaboration in pursuit of a better future.
