The Global Skills Report 2024, published by Coursera, an online learning platform, has ranked Spain as the seventh country in the world with the most digital skills. This is attributed to an increase in enrollments in Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) courses to address technological disruption. Spanish students show a significant willingness to train in skills required by generative AI and excel in technology and data science.

The report highlights that European students demonstrate proficiency in skills, with many European countries ranking high in the report. Despite a decline in cybersecurity enrollments, there has been a significant increase in GenAI course enrollments, reflecting a growing interest in emerging technologies. AI training is considered essential, and enrollments in GenAI courses have surged globally.

Spain’s overall score in Technology is among the top, with Bioinformatics, Programming Languages, and Distributed Computing Architecture as the main skills acquired. Spanish companies are investing in training their employees to maximize AI technologies’ potential, with 85% already doing so. Spain is on track to achieve gender parity in online learning, with 49% of Spanish students being women.

Accessible learning pathways are crucial as the need for retraining grows, and many European students learn through mobile phones. This emphasizes the demand for flexible learning solutions that cater to diverse learning styles and needs. Coursera has seen significant enrollment from Spaniards since October 2021, with over 2.3 million enrolling since then. The platform has also translated thousands of courses into Spanish using Machine Learning technology to continue offering new skills to users.
