The Space Force’s Rapid Resilient Command and Control (R2C2) program has awarded a potential seven-year, $1 billion contract to 20 small businesses for software development. These companies were selected by the Space Rapid Capabilities Office to support the service branch’s efforts to enhance its next-generation ground system using commercial cloud architecture.

The contract is a small business set-aside with a five-year base period and a two-year option. Some of the companies selected for the program include Aalyria Technologies, A.i. solutions, Defense Unicorns, and Frontier Technology.

The Space Force will use this contract to acquire software systems in smaller, more manageable pieces, rather than larger, comprehensive implementations. This approach will allow for quicker integration of systems engineering, integration, and software solutions for prototype integration across multiple satellite programs.

With R2C2, the Space Force aims to help its mission partners deliver automation and a common user experience to operators. The goal is to enable faster movement of space assets in response to emerging threats.
