In Anchorage, Southcentral Foundation recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new behavioral health center. The facility will provide in-patient behavioral crisis treatment, detox beds for substance abuse, and outpatient behavioral health services. April Kyle, President of Southcentral Foundation, highlighted the importance of expanding the detox program to better serve the community. The new facility will increase the capacity for detox beds by about a third, up to 30 beds. Currently, there is a waitlist of around ten people for the detox program.

In addition to detox services, the new facility will also offer behavioral health crisis stabilization for up to seven days. The goal is to provide individuals with the necessary support and time to stabilize and transition back into the community. For those who require a higher level of care or longer stabilization, the facility will be equipped to provide that on-site. The completion of the facility is estimated to be by early 2026 and it will be located at Elmore and Tudor roads in Anchorage’s U-Med district.

The new behavioral health center will play a vital role in meeting the immediate needs of the community and providing essential services to those struggling with behavioral health issues and substance abuse disorders.
