Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho recently paid a visit to the Heavy Ion Accelerator Research Institute at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Yuseong District, located in western Daejeon. During his visit, Minister Lee Jong-ho was able to inspect the trial operation of the heavy ion accelerator and sought feedback on its construction, operation, and utilization.
The heavy ion accelerator at the Institute for Basic Science is equipped to accelerate various ions, including hydrogen ions and heavier ions, to speeds nearly equivalent to that of light before colliding with target materials. This groundbreaking technology has the potential to greatly impact scientific research and development in various fields.
Performance checks and trial operations for the heavy ion accelerator are set to continue from the end of June through August. This testing phase will allow researchers and scientists to gather valuable data and insights to further enhance the capabilities and efficiency of this cutting-edge technology.
