Sony has announced its strategy for PlayStation studios’ video games, which will differ depending on the type of game. Service games will be launched simultaneously on both PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PC, while single-player narrative titles will arrive on computers sometime after their console release.

Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, emphasized the relationship between the console and Sony’s hardware, stating that the console will remain “the best place to play.” However, Hulst also acknowledged that video games are expanding beyond consoles to platforms such as PCs, mobile phones, and virtual reality glasses.

In a strategic approach to releasing new titles, Hulst outlined that in the future, there will be at least a year between the launch of a game on the PS console and on PC, with the exception of service games, which may have simultaneous launches on PC and PS. This approach aims to reach new audiences interested in playing on the console.

The business strategy for video games as a service and narrative single-player titles has been clarified by Hulst. Service games will have day 1 launches on both the console and PC, while narrative titles will be strategically released on PC after the PlayStation launch. This approach aims to attract new audiences to PlayStation games.
