In Boston, Massachusetts, small business owners from all over the state gathered to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing their enterprises. The event offered an opportunity for these entrepreneurs to engage with elected officials at the State House and learn about pending proposals that could impact their operations.

The event began with opening remarks from Senator Bruce Tarr, followed by a legislative update from NFIB State Director Christopher Carlozzi, Jon Hurst of the Retailers Association of Massachusetts, and Jessica Muradian of the Massachusetts Restaurant Association. The update focused on healthcare costs, time-off policies, and labor mandates such as the tipped wage.

Following the legislative update, a panel discussion on Small Business Competitiveness was held, featuring Representative Paul McMurtry, Senator Michael Moore, and Senator Peter Durant. These panelists provided insights into various committees related to small business development and technology.

After the panel discussion, small business owners were encouraged to meet with their legislators to discuss the issues that are important to their businesses. Armed with knowledge from Small Business Day, these owners were able to explain to policymakers how legislation from Beacon Hill could potentially hinder economic growth and job creation.
