Recently, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office discovered skimmers at a business in the east part of the city. These skimmers are devices that can steal account numbers and pin numbers when individuals use their cards at compromised machines. It is important to note that there is a possibility that skimmers have been installed at other businesses in the area as well.

In response to this discovery, the CCSO is urging businesses to check their point-of-sale keypads for any signs of skimmers. If a skimmer is found, businesses are advised to contact non-emergency dispatch immediately and avoid tampering with the device. Additionally, shoppers and patrons of businesses are encouraged to keep a close eye on their credit/debit cards and bank accounts for any unusual activity. If any suspicious transactions are identified, individuals should contact their financial institution for further assistance.

If someone believes they have been the victim of a skimmer, it is important to report it to law enforcement during business hours and follow the instructions provided by their financial institution regarding card cancellation, replacement, and reporting. Anyone with information about the skimmers found in Carson City is asked to contact the sheriff’s office or Secret Witness.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is working diligently to address this issue and ensure the safety and security of the community. It is important for everyone to stay vigilant and take proactive measures to protect their financial information.
