In Germany, a Syrian refugee who has been living there for several years has been accused of taking a young life. Mwafak A., who is 18 years old, is said to have beaten Philippos Tsanis, who was just 20 years old, to death in the spa gardens of Bad Oeynhausen. The incident has left Philippos’ mother devastated by the loss of her son.

The mother had previously been very active in helping Ukrainian war refugees and even housed them in her home. In March 2022, she drove to Poland in her pickup truck to pick up at least four refugees from Ukraine. She was motivated by her family connections to the country and the horrors they were enduring. Her son Philippos also helped with packing the truck with relief supplies.

Unfortunately, Philippos’s life came to a tragic end when Mwafak A. allegedly attacked and killed him in the spa gardens of Bad Oeynhausen. The accused murderer, who is a Syrian with a history of police investigations, was arrested by the police soon after the incident. Despite his criminal record, he had never been to prison before this arrest. A judge issued an arrest warrant and Mwafak A. is currently detained in a correctional facility for adolescents in Herford, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The community is shocked by the tragic loss of Philippos and the alleged involvement of a fellow refugee in his death.
