On Sunday, June 16, two employees were taken hostage at a pre-trial detention center in Rostov-on-Don by prisoners accused of terrorist crimes, including connections with the Islamic State. The attackers were armed with knives, sharpeners, fire axes, and rubber batons taken from the guards. Negotiations are underway to free the hostages.

According to sources in law enforcement agencies, the prisoners responsible for the hostage situation are being held at pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Rostov-on-Don. Further information is still being clarified about their alleged connection to terrorist activities. A Telegram channel, 112, has released footage with statements from the terrorists, noting that they were arrested in 2022 while planning to blow up the Supreme Court of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic in the Russian Federation.
