The African American Male Wellness Agency in Columbus, Ohio is shifting its focus to women with its annual Uplift Her event this week. This event, taking place on Thursday, aims to address health disparities among Black women who are more vulnerable to health issues such as breast cancer, heart disease, and childbirth complications.

According to a recent study by the Kaiser Family Foundation, 10% of Black Americans do not have health insurance, which is higher than the 6% of white Americans who are uninsured. Additionally, a study published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine found that Black patients were 40% less likely to receive medication for acute pain from healthcare providers.

The free Uplift Her event will be held from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Charles Prep School in Bexley on East Broad Street. Attendees can take advantage of free screenings and access to healthcare resources to help improve their overall well-being.
