Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) has decided to permanently close one of its eligibility services offices in downtown Redding due to safety concerns. The office, located at 1220 Sacramento St., was closed on June 10 because of a safety risk that could not be addressed, according to HHSA spokesperson Kimberly Ross.

Following the closure of the Sacramento Street office, 23 staff members were relocated to other HHSA locations in Redding. HHSA is actively searching for a new downtown location and hopes to find one in the upcoming weeks, according to Ross. In the meantime, clients in need of assistance can visit other HHSA offices in various locations throughout Shasta County or contact the agency through BenefitsCal.com or by phone.

Amy Koslosky, another HHSA spokesperson, explained that the building did not have enough exits to ensure the safety of staff in case of an emergency. Since HHSA only leased part of the building and did not have access to all the exits, it was decided that the location was no longer suitable. The agency is now looking to move into a new building that provides a more secure environment for staff.

For more information on services provided by HHSA, individuals can visit their website or contact the nearest office for assistance.
