SGMC Health recently recognized Squire Dison with the June DAISY Award for his exceptional nursing care. Dison received this award for his outstanding compassion and attention to both patients and their family members. One of Dison’s colleagues in Case Management nominated him for going above and beyond to assist a family member from another country in navigating the hospital. The nomination highlighted Dison’s efforts in accompanying the family member to and from their mother’s room, ensuring they didn’t get lost.

Cherise Giddens, Chief Nursing Officer at SGMC Health, commended Dison for exemplifying the warm and friendly culture expected at the hospital. She described his actions as a display of human kindness and a testament to his compassionate nursing. Moreover, SGMC Health encourages patients and fellow staff members to nominate nurses who demonstrate exceptional care and actions. Nominations are carefully reviewed based on criteria such as compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, skills, and knowledge.

The DAISY Award is presented monthly in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Recipients of the award receive a certificate celebrating them as an “Extraordinary Nurse” and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. Additionally, a special floral arrangement of daisies, donated by The Flower Gallery, is given to each honoree. To nominate a nurse for the DAISY award, individuals can visit sgmc.org/daisy.

Overall, the DAISY Award recognizes nurses like Squire Dison who go above and beyond in their care and dedication to patients and their families. It serves as a platform to acknowledge and appreciate the exceptional work of nurses at SGMC Health and fosters a culture of compassion
