The University of Southern Indiana’s Educator Preparation Program (EPP) has received a seven-year extension on its accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). Spread across two Colleges, including the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education and the College of Liberal Arts, the program offers majors and minors in areas such as elementary education, special education, early childhood education, mathematics, history, and more.
Accreditation not only prepares students for careers in education but also encourages educator preparation programs to engage in continuous self-assessment and evidence-based analysis to enhance their effectiveness. Dr. William Elliott, Interim Dean of the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education, underscored the importance of CAEP accreditation in ensuring that teacher education programs at USI deliver quality classroom instruction, meaningful clinical experiences, and valuable professional development opportunities.
Dr. Tori Colson, Assistant Dean of the Pott College of Science, Engineering, and Education and Interim Chair of Teacher Education expressed pride in the program’s national recognition. She highlighted the dedication to providing high-quality teacher preparation that empowers graduates to excel in the classroom. The renewal of accreditation by CAEP validates the high standards upheld by USI’s Teacher Education Programs affirming their effectiveness in preparing future educators for their roles in the classroom.
