Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey accused Steward Health Care of financial problems at its Massachusetts hospitals due to corporate greed and mismanagement. During a hearing held at the Massachusetts State House, Markey, who chairs the subcommittee on Primary Health and Retirement Security, made these comments.

Both senators criticized Steward Health Care, along with Cerberus Capital Management and Medical Properties Trust, for failing in their responsibilities to patients, providers, and communities. They specifically called out Ralph de la Torre and other corporate executives for prioritizing profits over the well-being of those who rely on the healthcare services provided by the company’s hospitals.

The hearing shed light on the challenges facing Steward Health Care and the implications it has for the future of healthcare in Massachusetts. By speaking out against the actions of Steward Health Care and its leadership, Markey and Warren are highlighting the need for greater accountability and transparency in the healthcare industry. Their focus on the role of corporate greed in exacerbating these issues underscores the importance of addressing this issue to ensure that patients receive quality care while also protecting their rights as consumers.
