A “flash mission” will be launched by senators on Friday, June 7 to investigate the control of bottled water manufacturers. This comes after investigations by Le Monde and Radio France revealed that waters labeled as “spring” or “natural mineral” did not meet quality regulations. In April, it was uncovered that the health agency Anses had recommended increased surveillance of water catchment sites owned by Nestlé Waters, including brands like Perrier, Hépar, and Contrex. The CEO of Nestlé Waters acknowledged the issues in the water quality and expressed regret in a published article.

The document from Anses that was disclosed highlighted concerns about the water quality from Nestlé Waters, noting an “insufficient level of confidence” and multiple instances of microbiological contamination of fecal origin. Green Party rapporteur Antoinette Guhl is advocating for this mission to be undertaken to ensure the safety and transparency of bottled water products. It is important for consumers to be informed about the contents of mineral water and springs to make educated choices about their consumption. Transparent labeling and quality control measures are crucial to protect public health.
