Nassau County, the host of the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan, has announced increased security measures following a global threat from terror group ISIS-K. The first threat was received in April and targeted the India-Pakistan game scheduled for June 9, according to CNN.

Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick J Ryder stated that they are taking these threats very seriously and have been actively discussing security concerns for over six months. He emphasized their coordination with federal partners such as the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and various other law enforcement and intelligence agencies.

ISIS-K is responsible for a previous attack in Moscow and emerged in eastern Afghanistan in 2014. They remain one of the most active ISIS-affiliated groups. The police commissioner noted that this event presents the largest security challenge in Nassau County’s history, but assured the public that the stadium will be the safest place on June 9th.

The increased security measures aim to ensure the safety of all attendees, players, and officials during the highly anticipated cricket match. By working closely with various agencies and preparing for potential security threats, Nassau County authorities are committed to maintaining a safe environment for everyone involved in the event.
