Designed by CENTUM Research & Technology in Spain, this technology is helping SAR teams locate missing people quickly and efficiently. With a maximum range of 32 km, Lifeseeker can determine the location of an active mobile phone within less than 5 km.
The device acts as a miniature cell tower and uses the victim’s mobile phone to establish contact, even in areas with limited or no cell phone service. This has proven particularly useful in remote areas like La Plata Canyon in Colorado, where traditional search methods may be ineffective. During tests in this location, Lifeseeker was able to help locate missing people within minutes of activation, thanks to its ability to detect mobile phones and pinpoint their location on a map as SAR helicopters fly over the area. Depending on the situation, the SAR team can then bring ground personnel to the location or land the helicopter nearby for a safe rescue.
