On Sunday, Scottie Scheffler made history at TPC River Highlands by winning the Travelers Championship in a thrilling playoff against Tom Kim. This marked Scheffler’s sixth win of the season, making him just the sixth player in PGA Tour history to achieve this feat before July. The only others to accomplish this were Jimmy DeMaret in 1940, Byron Nelson in 1945, Ben Hogan in 1946, Sam Snead in 1950, and Arnold Palmer twice in 1960 and 1962.
Before his victory at the Travelers Championship, Scheffler had already notched victories at some of the biggest tournaments on the PGA Tour. He won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players, Masters Tournament, RBC Heritage, and Memorial Tournament. His six wins in a single season also place him in elite company, as only three players in the last 40 years have won at least six times in a single Tour season.
Scheffler’s impressive season has solidified his place among the best players on the PGA Tour today. He joins an exclusive list of players who have won at least six times in a single season, including Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh. Woods won nine times in a season twice (in 2000 and 2004), while Singh won nine times in a season once (in 2004). Nick Price also won six times in a single season back in 1994. With his six wins so far this year, Scheffler is well on track to becoming one of the most successful players on the PGA Tour.
