Two families have made significant donations totaling nearly $3 million to UW-La Crosse in order to expand science programs at the college. Interim chancellor Betsy Morgan announced the gifts on Thursday, with the larger of the two gifts being $1.5 million from Mike and Kathi McGinley. The donation will set up an endowed professorship at UWL, which Mike hopes will continue to support valuable research programs.

In addition to the McGinley’s donation, former UW-L faculty member Ron Rada and his wife Jane have donated $1.3 million. This donation will provide funding for the people who run the university’s River Studies Center. Rada, a long-time member of the UWL faculty, hopes that the Center can use the money to enhance its good reputation by building on its multi-disciplinary base of freshwater knowledge and education.

Both donations are scheduled to go into effect a year from now at UW-L, with the goal of expanding science programs and supporting faculty and research programs at the college. These generous gifts from the McGinley and Rada families will have a lasting impact on the university and its students, as they continue to invest in their future success through scientific research and education.
