On Saturday, June 1, more than 100 people gathered in Kansas City’s Church Row for a free community health fair. Seven churches in the area joined together to provide essential healthcare services and promote preventative care.

The health fair took place at St. Peter CME Church, located at 1419 N. 8th St. in Kansas City, Kan., between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Members of the churches offered diabetes screenings, cholesterol tests, and blood pressure checks to attendees while professionals and volunteers from Optum Health Care Network and other providers provided additional free screenings.

Organizers emphasized the importance of early screening and preventative care for maintaining good health, particularly for underinsured or uninsured individuals and families who may not have access to these important medical services otherwise. The health fair aimed to break down barriers and make these services accessible to all who attended.

Following the health fair, the Kansas City Annual Local picnic was held from noon to 4 p.m., organized by the Mid-America Carpenters Regional Benefit Services. This community event brought together local residents for a day of fun and relaxation, providing an opportunity for attendees to socialize and connect with their neighbors after a day of healthcare screenings and education
