The San Francisco Giants, who have been struggling with injuries in their starting rotation, received some bad news on Sunday. Rookie left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison landed on the 15-day injured list due to a right ankle sprain. This was announced before the game against the Los Angeles Angels at Oracle Park.

In Harrison’s absence, the Giants called up right-handed pitcher Spencer Bivens from Triple-A Sacramento. To make room for Bivens on the 26-man roster, the team released righty Nick Avila.

Harrison had been a crucial member of the Giants’ rotation this season, making 14 starts and posting a 3.96 ERA in 77 1/3 innings pitched with 68 strikeouts and 22 walks. On the other hand, Bivens had been used as a reliever in Triple-A, recording a 2.81 ERA with 36 strikeouts, 16 walks, and eight saves in 41
