Sam’s Club in Meridian, Mississippi is one of the first to adopt a new AI technology camera system. The technology was unveiled at the Walmart keynote conference in Las Vegas in 2024 and it utilizes Artificial Intelligence and a camera system to scan customers’ receipts at the door, making the exiting process more efficient.
According to Sam’s Club Manager Josh Walters, one of the common complaints from members is having to wait in line to check out and exit the store. To address this issue, the new technology was introduced. It uses AI and a camera system to scan receipts, reducing the time it takes for associates to scan items in a cart as the technology can identify items just by visual inspection of the packaging.
Meridian Sam’s Club was among the first to receive this system and it serves as a model that will eventually be rolled out to Sam’s Clubs nationwide. With Meridian being a busy location during peak times, this innovation represents a welcome addition that improves the overall experience for members.
