In February 2023, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant named Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez entered the US from El Salvador. This man was wanted worldwide for his ties to Salvadoran gangs and had committed a murder in his home country in January of the same year. According to investigations by the American government, Hernandez came to the US to escape the crime he committed in El Salvador and did not come to improve his life or that of his family.
Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler expressed that Hernandez’s actions showed that he did not come to the US with good intentions. Instead, he came to commit more crimes, including raping and murdering Rachel Morin, a mother of five in Oklahoma. Investigators linked Hernandez to another crime using DNA evidence, connecting him to a home break-in in Los Angeles where he allegedly attacked a 9-year-old girl.
The US has been facing a migration crisis since President Joe Biden took office, implementing policies that have increased the influx of foreigners across the borders. This has been a highly debated issue among Democrats and Republicans alike. However, the White House recently announced a new executive order aimed at curbing the arrival of new immigrants across the border with Mexico in President Biden’s effort to maintain power in the coming November elections. The order aims to address concerns about illegal immigration while also addressing broader issues related to immigration policy reform.
