At the 31st annual F.E. Cope Invitational on Thursday, Salem senior Kaylee Carlisle emerged victorious in the discus event. She secured first place by a significant margin, showcasing her exceptional skills in the competition. The Salem girls team had a strong showing overall, with junior Maggie Hopple seizing victory in the 800-meter run and also contributing to the winning 3200 relay team alongside Laura Hovorka, Maggie Hall, and Emily Sinsley.

Carlisle also placed third in the shot put event, further highlighting her versatility and talent as an athlete. The Wadsworth girls team emerged as the overall winners of the meet, with Salem coming in a close second place. This marked a change from previous years, where the Salem girls had secured victory at the invitational multiple times in a row.

On the boys’ side, Wadsworth took the top spot with 104 points, surpassing Austintown Fitch to claim victory. Salem senior Will Madison put on an impressive performance in the 1600 run, finishing in second place behind Canfield’s Blake Baker. Maplewood senior Caleigh Richards, a five-time state champion, defended her title in the 1600 run, with Salem’s Maggie Hall and Megan Stafford also turning in strong performances in the event.

Overall, the F.E. Cope Invitational proved to be a showcase of exceptional talent and fierce competition among area athletes.
