In preparation for the Sacramento River Cats to host Major League Baseball (MLB) games at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, several upgrades are required to meet MLB standards. League commissioner Rob Manfred recently disclosed some of the improvements that will be made to the home field of the River Cats.

The upgrades include the construction of a new building for the home clubhouse, renovations to the visiting clubhouse, installation of new artificial turf, upgrading camera capabilities for major-league quality broadcasts, and additional revenue-associated renovations such as club seating and video boards in the stadium.

On April 4, it was announced that the Oakland Athletics (A’s), in collaboration with Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, will temporarily play at Sutter Health Park from 2025 through at least 2027 after their Oakland Coliseum lease expires in 2024. An option for a fourth year is included in the agreement in case the proposed Las Vegas ballpark isn’t ready by the 2028 MLB season. With this news, there is excitement about MLB games coming to Sacramento. However, before the A’s can officially make Sutter Health Park their home, much work needs to be done to ensure that it meets league standards.
