Sabika Jewelry, a Pittsburgh-based company founded 23 years ago, announced that it will be shutting down its business. The company specialized in selling handmade jewelry through direct sales at home parties and had over 5,300 salespeople in all 50 states. Currently, the business is run by Mahr’s daughters.

According to CEO Alexandra Mahr-Gracik, there were a variety of business reasons that led to the decision to close the company. Despite the closure, Mahr-Gracik expressed gratitude for the support from Pittsburgh that helped them start their venture in 2001. Sabika’s website is currently offering all jewelry at half price, which has attracted many fans of the brand.

In an effort to sell off their remaining inventory, Sabika is holding a special open house at their office in Robinson on June 5. They will be selling collector’s items, original prototypes, and pieces from the vault during the event. Mahr-Gracik also mentioned that the commissions paid to the women who sold the jewelry amounted to over $44 million. The company hopes to find loving homes for all of their remaining pieces of jewelry before officially closing their doors.
