The San Jose Sharks are narrowing down their search for their next head coach. According to three league sources, Ryan Warsofsky is currently at the top of the list, with one source even describing him as the “front runner.” Another source mentioned that the decision could come down to Warsofsky or Marco Sturm, with Jeff Blashill, Jeff Halpern, and Jeremy Colliton also being considered as candidates.

If Warsofsky is ultimately chosen, it would be a full circle moment for him as he previously interviewed for the top job in the summer of 2022 before David Quinn was hired. As an assistant coach under Quinn, Warsofsky played a key role in the development of the Sharks’ defense and penalty kill units. Under his guidance, Erik Karlsson reached Norris Trophy-level performance with 101 points in the 2022-23 season – the most by a defenseman since Brian Leetch in 1991-92. Additionally, San Jose’s penalty kill finished eighth in the NHL under Warsofsky’s leadership.
