In the spring, four-star offensive lineman Jaelyne Matthews made a commitment to Rutgers football that certainly shocked the world. Despite having Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee as his final three options, Matthews chose Rutgers, a school that was not initially in the running. Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 337 pounds, Matthews becomes the sixth player committed from his home state in the 2025 class. He is not only the highest-ranked verbal commitment from New Jersey to Rutgers but also the highest-ranked commit in the entire class.

Matthews is ranked as the No. 93 player in the nation by ESPN and is considered one of the top 25 offensive tackles in the nation according to the On3 Industry Rankings. His selection to play in the Under Armour All-America Game further solidifies his status as a top high school football player. This commitment is a significant one for Rutgers, boosting their recruiting class, which is already in the top 15 nationally.

Matthews received his first offer from Rutgers after his freshman season and after taking official visits to both Rutgers and Miami, he ultimately chose to stay close to home and play for Scarlet Knights. His decision marks a turning point for program and adds depth to their roster for upcoming seasons
