On Tuesday, Rutgers football made a major addition to their 2025 recruiting class with the commitment of four-star Jaelyne Matthews. According to ESPN analyst Tom Luginbill, Matthews is ranked as the No. 93 player in the nation, making him the highest-ranked player in Rutgers’ recruiting class.

Matthews, a four-star offensive tackle from Toms River North in New Jersey, was highly sought after by many top programs including Georgia, Miami, and Tennessee. He impressed Luginbill with his versatility on both sides of the ball and his athleticism on the field.

Luginbill praised Matthews’ size and potential for success at the next level. Standing at 6 foot 6 inches tall and weighing over 300 pounds, Matthews has an impressive wingspan of 81 inches which makes him a prospect for the offensive line. However, Luginbill noted that Matthews still has room to gain more weight and develop physically before he reaches his full potential on the field.

With this commitment, Rutgers now has six four-star recruits in their 2025 class. Luginbill believes that Matthews has a high ceiling and will continue to improve as he hones his skills on the field. While he may not have elite testing numbers, Luginbill recognizes Matthews’ athleticism and strong performance on the field which makes him a valuable addition to Rutgers football team.
