Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev recently spoke out about the US’s belief in winning the Cold War. In a speech at the 12th International Legal Forum in St Petersburg on June 27, Medvedev stated that he believes that the US has made a serious misconception and did not actually win. He is now the deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council and has taken a more anti-West stance since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Medvedev, who was viewed as more liberal and pro-West when he was elected in 2008, has become more bombastic in his statements and threats against Western countries. He has threatened nuclear attacks on Western capitals if NATO were to send troops to support Ukraine, as well as suggested firing a hypersonic missile at The Hague after an arrest warrant was issued for Putin by the International Criminal Court. He also made other outlandish predictions such as a war between France and Germany and Elon Musk becoming US president.

These statements have garnered attention and criticism from Western countries and leaders. Medvedev’s representatives have not responded to requests for comments on these matters.
