Russian Special Representative for the Middle East and African Countries, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov recently addressed the media regarding the ongoing situation involving two Russian citizens being held in the Gaza Strip by Hamas. Bogdanov stated that Hamas has assured the Russian government that they are willing to release the Russian citizens, but this would require a temporary ceasefire to be put in place.

According to Bogdanov, Russian officials have been actively engaging with Hamas to secure the release of the Russian citizens. Despite promises and assurances from Hamas, the release of the hostages is contingent on a ceasefire being implemented to allow for the handover of the Russian citizens to the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Bogdanov emphasized the importance of a temporary cessation of hostilities in order to facilitate the safe release of the Russian citizens held in Gaza. The Russian government is hopeful that Hamas will uphold their commitment to release
