Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday that over 40 new vessels will be added to Russia’s navy this year. The country has been focusing on bolstering its naval forces due to the losses suffered during the war against Ukraine.

Putin mentioned that Russia has been making progress in strengthening its navy, with new ships being added to the fleet. The Russian president highlighted the importance of enhancing the naval capacity by acquiring new ships, boats, and implementing infrastructure upgrades in naval bases.

Reports from the UK’s armed forces indicate that a quarter of Russia’s vessels in the Black Sea were either sunk or damaged during the conflict in Ukraine. These significant losses have highlighted the need for improvements in naval capabilities.

The plan to increase the number of ships and boats by more than 40 this year shows Russia’s commitment to upgrading its navy comprehensively. Putin emphasized that these upgrades are essential for enhancing Russia’s strategic position in crucial regions of the global ocean and improving its combat effectiveness.

Russia’s defense ministry has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the recent announcements about the naval upgrades as part of the country’s efforts to enhance its naval capabilities.
