A fire broke out on the world’s largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, while it was docked in Mexico. According to a report by USA Today, a Royal Caribbean spokesman stated that there were no injuries reported as a result of the blaze. The ship experienced a brief power outage, but backup systems quickly activated and main power was restored, as confirmed by the company. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and details about its location on the ship and any potential damages have not been revealed yet.
Despite this incident, the Icon of the Seas is set to continue its journey to Cozumel, Mexico on Wednesday, according to CruiseMapper. This massive cruise ship had its inaugural voyage from Miami in January and is considered the largest ship in the world with a length of 1,200 feet. It can accommodate up to 5,610 passengers across its 20 decks and is operated by 2,350 crew members.
The Icon of the Seas offers an impressive array of amenities for its passengers, including seven pools – one being the largest pool at sea – and the world’s largest waterpark at sea. It also features six waterslides, nine whirlpools, a rock climbing wall, Royal Caribbean’s first-ever food hall, a beach-themed carousel, an arcade and a mini-golf course. Despite this incident, passengers continue to enjoy these luxurious amenities while sailing through Mexico’s waters.
